a. Teachers, parents, and other physicians may be sources of referrals.
b. As a subspecialty of psychiatry, the area of diagnostic consideration should be narrow in focus.
c. Child and adolescent psychiatrists should offer a child and family a comprehensive diagnostic assessment that addresses the medical conditions of the child, the nature of the child's relationships with his or her external environment, as well as all facets of the child's development.
d. The developmental history obtained should in many ways be of a similar depth to that obtained by a developmental pediatrician with special consideration given to social and affective consequences of developmental phenomena.
